Clinical Indication of UB62 (Shen Mai)

1. Name: Extending Vessel ("Shen" in Chinese character implies this point opens upper, middle and lower jiao)

2. Location: In the depression directly below the lateral malleolus

3. Acu-Anatomy
a. Vasculature: The external malleolar arterial network
b. Innervation: The sural nerve

4. Yang Heel
a. Origin of Yang Qiao (Yang Heel vessel)
b. As a Confluent point of Yang Qiao: location is slightly higher than regular UB62. (Needle 45 degree to the skin)

5. Technique: Clinically contraindicated for moxa. (*Moxa is applicable in CAM)

6. Brain
a. Stimulate the brain and psychological nerve. (very good point for the brain)
b. Used for Psychological disorder, epilepsy, dizziness

7. Local
a. Used for unable to stand up due to foot weakness
b. Important local point for ankle sprain: with UB60 and UB61

8. Headache
a. SI3 with UB62: occipital headache (SI3 for manifestation of pain, UB62 for root of pain), psychological disorder, epilepsy
b. SI3 with LU7: vertex headache
