Clinical indication of KD6 (Zhao Hai)

1. Name
Zao Means Shining, but it also means reflection.  It reflects Qi or Blood color.  Hai means ocean.  It directly related to KD.  The ocean means important organs such as: brain, heart, and kidney.

RN6 (Qi Hai): ocean of whole body
KD6 (Zhao Hai): ocean of Kidney
SP10 (Xue Hai): ocean of Uterus

2. Body Fluid
KD6 is used for disease that related to amount of body fluid(blood, urine).  If skin look haggard or look worn-down due to Kidney Yin deficiency, needle KD6, LU7, RN6, RN12.

3. Gynecological disorders
KD6 is used for many of gynecological disorders; irregular menstruation, morbid leukorrhea, uterine prolapse, pruritus vulvae.  For this indication, it's used with LU7 because LU7 (REN) and KD6 (YIN QIAO) is one of the 8 extra vessel combination.

4. KD6 vs. Shui Tung
KD6 is located about 1 cun below the medial malleolus.  In Master Tung acupuncture Shui Ting (Crystal) is located at 2 cun below the medial malleolus.  Shui Tung (Crystal) is used for disorders of uterus; uteritis, uterine mass combined with  Tian Huang (Heaven emperor, SP9) and Ren Huang (Human emperor, SP6).

5. Epilepsy
Opposite side of KD6 is UB62.  DU, Yin Qiao, Yang Qiao is used for epilepsy.  KD6 (Yin Qiao) is especially for night time seizure, UB62 (Yang Qiao) is especially for day time seizure.  I currently have a epilepsy patient in my clinic.  I am using LU7(Ren)-KD6(Yin Qiao) combination contra-laterally, and SI3(Du)-UB62(Yang Qiao) combination contra-laterally.  She has no seizure now and feel very stable and happy.

6. Extra function
It's less important but KD6 can be used for the following symptoms:

KD6 is used for impaired movement of hands and feet or foot sprain. 
KD6 also can be used for inter-costal neuralgia and edema. 
If someone fall down from high place, needle long time (45min-60min)

7. For Exam (Student)
For exam, you have to know following combination or differentiation.
LU7+KD6 combination is for lung system dryness or yin deficiency. 
SJ6+KD6 combination is for constipation. So, KD6 not only nourish Yin in the KD but also nourish fluid in the intestine.
KD6+KD3+UB23 combination is for KD Yin deficiency like Liu Wei Di Huang Wan. 
KD6 vs. SP6: KD6 nourish KD Yin only, but SP6 can nourish whole body Yin.
