Clinical indication of LV3 (Tai Chong)

1. Name
The name "surging" implies that LV3 can be used for pain due to something impact the body, ie. trauma or surging up like pain.

2. Four Gates
LV3 awaken all Yin channels versus LI4 awaken all Yang channels.
Five Shu Points of Yin channels starts from Wood point. (LV3 is the stimulant of Yin channels)
Five Shu Points of Yang channels starts from Metal point. (LI4 is the engine of Yang channels)

3. Acupuncture > Moxa
This point is used more for acupuncture rather than moxa.

4. Stagnation
Can be used for any type of stagnation such as Qi, Blood, Food, Damp, Phlegm, etc.
LI4 is better for stagnations below the chest, LV3 is better for stagnations below the umblicus.

5. Eye
Used for any Eye diseases

6. Prevent Fainting
It prevents fainting from the other needles, if you needle this point first.

7. Dysmenorrhea
Needle LI4, LV3, SP6, SP9   (SP9 needling: direction to genital area)

8. Contraindication
Contraindicated for pregnancy if it is combined with LI4 and SP6
