Ingredient
8g  Dang Gui  (Angelicae Sinensis Radix)
8g  Shu Di  (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata)
6g  Bai Shao  (Paeoniae Radix Alba)
6g  Chuan Xiong  (Chuanxiong Rhizoma)
6g  Huang Qin  (Scutellariae Semen)
4g  Zhi Zi  (Gardeniae Fructus)
4g  Huang Lian  (Coptidis Rhizoma)
4g  Huang Bai  (Phellodendri Cortex)

Introduction
Wen Qing Yin is the combination of Si Wu Tang (Four substance decoction) and Huang Lian Jie Du Tang (Coptis decoction to relieve toxicity).  Si Wu Tang is warm and Huang Lian Jie Du Tang is Cold, and that is why it is named Wen Qing Yin (Warming and Cooling decoction).  If someone has red face and oily skin, Huang Lian Jie Du Tang is used.  However, if red face and skin is dry, Wen Qing Yin is used.  Huang Lian Jie Du Tang regulate autonomic nerve system, and Si Wu Tang regulate blood (white blood cell, granulocyte).  Thus Wen Qing Yin is very popular for modern people's inflammatory diseases and immune disorders.  Related formulas are Chai Hu Qing Gan Tang, Jing Jie Lian Qiao Tang, and Long Dan Xie Gan Tang.

3. fever, itchy skin
4. numbness (vs. Wu Yao Shun Qi San: numbness due to Qi stagnation for the obese people)
5. dark and dry skin, psorasis, atopic dermatitis (vs. Si Wu Tang: only for deficient case, Wen Qing Yin: for deficient + excess case, Huang Lian Jie Du Tang or San Huang Xie Xin Tang: only for excess case)
6. women, lower abdominal pain, uterus area pain
7. mouth ulcer, behcet's disease
8. red eyes, red scalp by heat, skin eruption, itchness in women's genital

Modification
1. Fever, thirst, sweating: + Shi Gao 15-20g
2. Severe itchiness: + Ku Shen
3. Skin disorders: + Lian Qiao 4g, Jing Jie 4g, Yi Yi Ren 8-10g (vs. Xiao Feng San)
4. Hypochondriac distention, irritability: + Chai Hu 4g
5. Constipation, hot hands: + San Huang Xie Xin Tang
6. Edema: + Yue Bi Jia Zhu Tang
7. Appendicitis: + Da Huang Mu Dan Pi Tang + Jin Yin Hua 23g, Yi Yi Ren 15g, Pu Gong Ying 15g
8. Uterine fibroid: + Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan + Jin Yin Hua, Yi Yi Ren, Pu Gong Ying

Clinical application
1. Skin disorders, atopic dermatitis, dry skin
2. Heat, dry skin
3. Eye disorders, red eyes, tendency to get inflammation
4. Liver cirrhosis of patient with strong constitution.
5. Stroke patient who has fever and numbness unilaterally.
6. Uterine bleeding, dry skin with deficiency (if Excess only, Huang Lian Jie Du Tang)
7. Nose bleeding, hematemesis
8. Women, red face, face get red easily (after sauna), acne, skin beauty
9. Hypertension
10. Alcoholic, red face, fatigue after drinking alcohol, add Shuang He Tang and Yin Chen
11. Arthritis, hand numbness
12. Behcet's disease: + Shi Gao, Ku Shen.  Start from Wen Qing Yin, if severe, use Long Dan Xie Gan Tang
